For a bit of a change we tried La Pachamama last night, being absolute virgins to the Peruvian cuisine. Their first branch was the one in Barcelona, but they moved to Cologne in 2005. Its name means Mother Earth by the way.
The little restaurant stresses serving authentic Peruvian food and being an ambassador of their culture in general. The dishes we tried had a really down to earth approach. As starters we tried their Cebiche signature dish, a cold salad with marinated pieces of fish, spices, herbs and lime. Loads of lime! Only five portions of this dish are available on Friday and Saturday, throughout the week it is has to be ordered beforehand. We liked the fresh and tangy taste of it, but the amount of Lime is not everyones cup of tea. Both of our main dishes had big chunks of meat, rice and rich sauces. All the dishes we ordered came in quite big portions, so it was a bit like two main courses. But you can order Peruvian style Tapas as well, possibly giving one a better overview.
Service was friendly, so one soon forgot the long wait for the drinks and hearing that the chosen wine was not available on that specific night. We can recommend it for a night out trying a new cuisine, caught half way between Spanish, Mexican and European tastes. La Pachamama is located Roonstr. 36 in Cologne.
Four out of six points.
