The post yesterday got shorter than expected, because I received a call while writing it. I got to know my old friend Klaus died this very Monday after struggling cancer for eight months. I didn´t know he was terminally ill, had not seen him for quite a while.
I met him during the mid 80s and we spend many days and nights chatting and listening to music, John Peel on the radio, hanging out in Irish pubs and at all sorts of concerts.
Possibly the first gig we both attended was Bowie in Bochum in 1983, but we did not know each other at this time. The last concert we saw together was David Bowie in Bonn, during 2002. The last one we wanted to see together was Bowie in Cologne in 2003, but a couple of days before that my father died.
So these are the little things one can say on such a day or in such a week. But in the end our music will stay, the songs, the lyrics. This is taken from an old fave:
People like you find it easy,
Naked to see,
Walking on air.
Hunting by the rivers,
Through the streets,
Every corner abandoned too soon,
Set down with due care.
Don't walk away in silence,
Don't walk away.
