If there would be only one restaurant to praise from our stay in Kuala Lumpur, it´s the Tamarind Springs. They run three restaurants in the area, all outside of the city. But as they give you a free pickup and drop at your place or hotel in Kuala Lumpur, it´s no hassle of gettting there. The drive takes around 30 minutes from city center. We heard the Tamarind Springs is the best of the three, but haven´t been to the other ones.
Situated on the mountainside, in some sort of jungle area, the place has very beautiful surroundings. The well designed restaurant features different levels (serving functions etc.) so while being reasonable sized it feels intimate. Service is likewise, very friendly and paying attention to every detail.
The major factor is obviously the fabulous cuisine, which left us close to speechless. Their own mix of the cuisines of Vietnam, Laos and Camboadia is well beyond the ordinary asian restaurant and beats many specialized in one cuisine hands down. The mixed starter platter is a good way to sample most of their offerings and nearly servs two people. The Laotian Watermelon salad with chicken and prawns was very refreshing and hot at the same time. Likewise the Laotian fish curry I had was different from any curry I had ever before in my life. Rich in taste, spicy and well topped with herbs. And this was the only place on our whole journey where we could not stays away from the dessert, which was delicious.
So it´s quite easy this time, six out of six points!
